US: FTC promotes online child safety booklet

The Federal Trade Commission has recently begun promoting a new free booklet, "Net Cetera: Chatting with Kids About Being Online," to schools, law enforcement agencies and PTAs across the U.S.

"Net Cetera" explains to parents and their children how to deal with social networking, cyberbullying, safe mobile phone use, and how to protect the family computer from viruses.

The booklet, part of the OnGuardOnline.gov consumer education campaign, is written in plain language and does not require readers to be technologically savvy.

The FTC created "Net Cetera" in response to a Congressional mandate in the Broadband Data Improvement Act.
